The Outdoor Arena

This was a good idea at the time, and is now proving to be so, The field at the back of the house, is the side of a drumlin, and in our infinite wisdom we decided we would flatten it and make a full sized outdoor arena, for shows & training. So this week July 4 along comes a 20 ton digger and starts. Dumper truck needed by Tuesday to move soil and speed things up, muggin's here, is the dumper truck driver.

After all that we now have a nearly flat arena, lots of stones and needs "land levelled", so after spending 2 days racking, by hand, all the stones off the arena, and getting a local farmer to "land level" it . Grass!!!!! I didn't know there were so many types of grass, yet when I asked for one that was hard wearing and didn't need cut more than twice a year, I was told it didn't exist, so much for choice.

Well it's now sewn, with rye grass and a special mixture made up by the local "expert" in grass and starting to grow.

The bank at the back makes a great vantage point, however until we get Health & Safety fencing up there, until then we cannot allow people to use it.

The grass is now starting to grow, hope I don't have to cut it this year, the area looks massive, do I really run around an area this size for fun?.

Need to make steps up onto the arena now, as it needs to be safe.

Talking of which, the H&S fencing is going up now, it looks great, though I won't be able to take short cuts around the ménage now. We even get nice sunsets to take the pictures.

The area around the yard is also getting this fencing, and the gates for the entrance are ready to go on.

After getting all the work done to the field, and getting all around filled in, we found that the water tanks won't fit behind the indoor arena, or rather not without a lot of expense. So we decided to dig up the field again. Just the bit behind the indoor arena. Again seemed like a good idea at the time.

Hard work and blisters.

Still once this is installed, we will be able to collect all the rainwater from the indoor arena and save it for use, in the hydro pool, & wet room, we plan on building next year.

Again our plan is to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

The grass is growing and the dogs love to run on it, after a small fix, it will be ready for competitions.

The view from the top is breath taking
